Grant Assists Gilmer Teachers with Professional Development
Gilmer teachers seeking professional development opportunities may benefit from a recent grant to the school district. A $10,000 Good Neighbor Citizenship Grant, recently awarded to the district by State Farm, was formally presented at Monday’s school board meeting by local agent Henry Troell. Gilmer ISD requested the grant to help implement more high-quality training for teachers. The professional development will focus on improving the depth and complexity of writing for all students K-8, focusing on English Language Leaners.
Troell, whose wife is an educator, met with the school board and administrators during the March school board meeting sharing State Farm’s commitment to education, “We are committed to helping our communities become stronger, safer and better educated. We recognize Gilmer ISD’s mission to produce self-reliant citizens that contribute to the success and strength of the community.” Troell says State Farm approved grants double the amount requested by the district for additional teachers to be trained.
