Announcements

Gilmer ISD will have an informational meeting for the ESSA Title I Part A and Title II on June 20 at 9:00 a.m. at 500 South Trinity Street.  GISD must provide an opportunity for children enrolled in private schools to benefit from these funds, if so desired.

  • Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act – Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged - funding is generated by students who qualify for free or reduced priced meals.  If you elect to participate in Title I, the private school must provide Gilmer ISD with data regarding the students eligible for free and reduced priced meals at your school.  The funding generated by these students is used to provide additional instruction.

  • Title II, Part A: Improving Teacher Quality State Grants program funding is also generated by students who qualify for free or reduced priced meals.  The focus of the program is to prepare, train and recruiting high quality teachers and principals.

Any services, materials and equipment purchased with the above-mentioned federal funds must provide for the benefit of eligible and participating private school students – not the private school operational costs. Funds must be used to meet specific needs of eligible students enrolled in the private schools, rather than the needs of the private school itself or the general needs of the students enrolled in the private schools. Services and materials must be secular, neutral and non-ideological.  The control of the funds and the title to any equipment and materials purchased with those funds must remain with Gilmer ISD. The district is responsible for maintaining an updated inventory and conducting a physical inventory.
